Brighton grab late winner as Palace see off Ipswich

The Premier League saw four games played ahead of the two evening fixtures on Saturday.
In the early kick-off, Nottingham Forest took a huge step towards Champions League football by beating Manchester City in front of a packed-out City Ground.
A second-half strike from Callum Hudson-Odoi was enough to pick up the three points and lift the Tricky Trees into third place, above their opponents and with a five-point buffer to Chelsea in fifth.
At Anfield, Liverpool moved 16 points clear at the top of the table, coming from behind to beat Southampton.
Will Smallbone capitalised on a defensive mix up between Alisson and Virgil van Dijk to give the Saints a shock lead before half-time.
But the Reds came out firing in the second half, and a quickfire double between Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah but the home side ahead.
Salah then grabbed his second from the penalty spot late on, marking his 27th goal of the campaign and sealing the win.

Brighton 2-1 Fulham
Brighton secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Fulham at the Amex Stadium, with Joao Pedro’s 98th-minute penalty proving the decisive moment.
The visitors took the lead in the first half through Raul Jimenez, who finished after a brilliant run and cross from Alex Iwobi.
However, Fulham’s advantage was short-lived as Brighton responded just minutes later.
Yasin Ayari delivered an inviting free-kick into the box, allowing Jan Paul van Hecke to head home his first goal for the club and level the score at 1-1.
Brighton dominated the second half, pushing relentlessly for a winner. They created several chances, including a disallowed goal for Simon Adingra following a VAR review for offside, and saw Danny Welbeck squander a free header from a Joao Pedro cross.
As the game entered stoppage time, Brighton’s persistence paid off. Substitute Harrison Reed fouled Pedro inside the penalty area in the final moments, leaving the referee with no hesitation in pointing to the spot.
Pedro stepped up and confidently dispatched his penalty past Bernd Leno, securing all three points for the Seagulls with virtually the last kick of the match.

Crystal Palace 1-0 Ipswich
Crystal Palace secured their third consecutive Premier League victory with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ipswich at Selhurst Park.
Ismaila Sarr’s late strike proved the difference in an entertaining clash that saw plenty of chances at both ends.
The first half was a lively affair, with both sides threatening to break the deadlock. Palace should have gone ahead within two minutes when Adam Wharton’s precise pass put Eddie Nketiah through on goal, but Ipswich goalkeeper Josh Palmer made an excellent save.
Ipswich responded immediately, as Jaden Philogene forced Dean Henderson into a sharp stop.
The end-to-end action continued as Eberechi Eze went close, only to be denied by an excellent block from Jacob Greaves.
The visitors had further opportunities, with Liam Delap and Philogene both going close, but neither side could find the net before half-time.
The second half began with a near-miss from Eze, whose deflected shot struck the post.
Ipswich then created several chances of their own, with Delap and Philogene once again testing Henderson. At the other end, Sarr and Matheus Munoz forced Palmer into impressive saves, as Palace pushed for the breakthrough.
The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute. Wharton found Daichi Kamada on the edge of the box, and after a deflection off Kalvin Phillips, the ball fell kindly to Sarr, who produced a delightful chip over Palmer to give Palace the lead.
This result moves Palace up to 11th place, having won nine of their last 11 matches in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Ipswich’s struggles continue, as they remain without a league win in 2025 and stay in 18th place, five points from safety.
