‘I liked what we did’

Arne Slot said he was happy with what he saw from his Liverpool players as the Reds ran out 1-0 winners over Everton to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points.
Diogo Jota struck shortly after half-time in front of a typically raucous Anfield crowd to give Slot’s side the victory and end the Toffees nine-match unbeaten run.
Beto had a first-half goal ruled out for offside, while David Moyes’ team were perhaps fortunate to finish the game with eleven players after James Tarkowski’s crunching follow-through on Alexis Mac Allister.

The result extends Liverpool’s unbeaten Premier League run to 26 matches and moves them to within 13 points of the title with eight games remaining. And Slot was pleased by his side’s showing.
“I liked what we did much more than in the away game, where we scored two goals [in a 2-2 draw] but we hardly created anything,” Slot said.
“Today we were almost constantly in their final third but, still, it’s hard to score because of the number of players they bring back around their 18-yard box and the way they can defend.
“We faced a team that has not lost for nine games in a row. So we knew, apart from it being the Merseyside derby, we faced a very strong team, especially defensively.”
Slot was also asked about his take on the Tarkowski challenge, but the Liverpool boss was in no mood to wade into the debate.
“So many people gave their opinion about it, and even people who are not in Liverpool’s favour,” said Slot.
“They were so clear in their comments that it’s not necessary for me to say anything else about it.
“It was so clear it is not necessary for me to comment.”
Liverpool are next in action when they travel to Fulham on Sunday.
