Manchester City v Newcastle Match Preview

Fifth faces sixth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as Manchester City host Newcastle as the race for the top four hots up.

City will still be reeling from another disappointing evening on Tuesday after conceding two late goals to lose 3-2 to Real Madrid in the Champions League knockout play-off first leg.

Surrendering leads is becoming something of a habit for Pep Guardiola’s ailing side, having failed to win nine games in which they have led in this season, which is many times as their previous four campaigns.

It is also City’s first Premier League action since being thumped 5-1 by Arsenal earlier this month, which leaves them two points adrift of Chelsea in fourth ahead of Saturday’s opponents on goal difference alone.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are on a high after reaching the Carabao Cup final with a win over Arsenal before another cup win against Birmingham in the FA Cup. After nine conecutive wins, the Magpies’ league form has stuttered after losing three of their last two.

The duo drew 1-1 at St James’ Park in September as Anthony Gordon earned a point for the Magpies after Josko Gvardiol’s opener.
