Who are the stars chasing the most assists?

For the last seven seasons, the Premier League has officially awarded the player with the most assists across the season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the award has been dominated by Manchester City’s Keven De Bruyne, who has claimed the accolade on three separate occasions since its inception in 2017-18.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins led the way last season with 13 assists, but it seems likely that the title will be going elsewhere this term.
The business end of the season fast approaching, here are the current contenders for the league’s Playmaker Award.

=3. Son Heung-Min (Tottenham Hotspur)
It has been another topsy-turvy season for Tottenham. Despite making it to the quarter finals in the Europa League, the team are currently 14th in the league having been hampered by a lengthy injury list. Ange Postecoglou’s side have had to contend with the same questions that have plagued Spurs teams – and managers – in recent years.
But one constant in that time has been the impact of their talisman from South Korea. Son has again proved to be a key creative outlet for Spurs, claiming nine assists so far this season.
=3. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
With Manchester United in real danger of recording their worst ever finish in the Premier League era, there has been very little to shout about at Old Trafford this season.
But if there has been one thing remotely close to a shining light for the red side of Manchester, it has been the performances of the Red Devils’ captain.
Fernandes has nine assists to go with his eight goals so far this campaign, one that has seen United spend a large portion of it in the bottom half of the table.
The Portuguese international has come to his team’s rescue on a number of occasions this term, even if his leadership qualities remain, among pundits at least, a topic for debate.

=2. Antonee Robinson (Fulham)
The full-back has been one of the standout performers of Marco Silva’s Fulham side this term. The English-born USA international has 10 assists thus far, as the London club chase down a Champions League spot.
His performances have reportedly been piquing the interest of several big clubs. Liverpool are believed to be admirers, as Arne Slot searches for a possible long-term replacement for 31-year-old Andy Robertson.
Robinson is nicknamed Jedi. His social media handle is @antonee-jedi. And, based on his assists numbers alone, with good reason.
Can’t describe what an honor it is to be named @usmnt player of the year 🇺🇸 🌟 Some of my favorite moments in my career have been while representing my country and I still know we have much more to look forward to. Thank you to everyone ❤️🤍💙 pic.twitter.com/KytruqI1n3

=2. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
It speaks to the goal-creating ability of Arsenal’s poster boy that despite being sidelined through injury since December, Saka is still joint-second for assists this season.
With 10 assists to his name, Saka’s absence has proved a bitter pill to swallow for Gunners fans, as their search for a first Premier League title in over 20 years looks set to continue.
=2. Mikkel Damsgaard (Brentford)
There was much anticipation among Bees fans when the exciting Danish forward arrived at the Gtech Community Stadium from Sampdoria in 2022.
And while the 24-year-old has by no means been a flop, it is perhaps only now that the seeds of Damsgaard’s talents are finally bearing fruit. With 10 assists so far this term, his creativity has been a key factor behind why Thomas Frank’s side have been so thrilling to watch this season.

1. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
With 17 assists in the league already this term, Salah looks to be a shoe-in for this season’s award, which would be the second time the Liverpool player has claimed the accolade after doing so in 2021-22.
Having registered seven more assists than the closest challengers, the Liverpool forward will now have his sights on toppling the Premier League assist record in a single season of 20, which is currently shared by Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20) and Thierry Henry (2002-03).
Only Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has created more chances than Salah this season, and with the Egyptian also the runaway leader in the goalscoring charts, and Liverpool sitting top of the pile and on course for the Premier League title, it could turn out to be a very memorable campaign indeed for the 32-year-old.
